About Chace Daniel Whitaker

Born on June 30, 2010 with curly black hair. He immediately stole my heart and not long after the hearts of everyone else. He was my little sidekick, with the sweetest voice, gentlest heart and goofy personality. While he was both a mommas and daddy’s boy, he was also deeply bonded with his big sister, grandparents and great grandparents. Chace had a love for playing games, riding his bike, toy cars and everything sweet to eat! His favorite movie was Cars and both “Tow Mater” and “Whitening McQueen” were his favorite.

On July 11th, 2013 our family had to say goodbye to Chace as he was removed from life support. He had been under a medically induced coma for two days where they determined that he had suffered severe brain damage due to complications of a scorpion sting. It was completely unexpected and we were gutted. How does this happen to a perfectly healthy 3 year old? We later learned that this could have all been prevented, had he been treated properly at the ER. Ultimately we lost Chace due to medical negligence.

If not for the amount of unconditional love and support from my family and friends and still being a mom to a 14 year old daughter, I’m not sure where my life would be today. There are still days I get angry, days I am triggered by a memory. But mostly I am just thankful that I was chosen to be Chace’s mommy, if even for 3 short years. I am thankful I have family and friends who can still carry me through the bad days. And I am forever grateful that I was given a push last year to start this Toy Drive, which has brought his memory to life.

Thank you for taking the time to hear just a small part of Chaces story…. I hope you smile as big as I do when I look at these pictures.
